A lot of people start sending out emails when they start a blog or a website. One terrible thing to avoid is to send emails all the time. Don’t send emails three times a day, every day. That is not going to work. You will end up in the spam folder or your subscriber will unsubscribe. There is no excuse for sending excessive email. You need to plan your emails before you send them. That means you need to get all your information together so you can send one coherent email for every five nonsensical ones you would have sent.
Avoid being generic. Allow your readers to customize as much as they would like. Perhaps they want to receive one email a week instead of every day. Maybe they would like to receive an email each day. When you let your readers customize their experience with you, they are extremely likely to do so and to appreciate it.
Don’t be vague about what you want them to do next. A lot of people send out information without asking their readers to do anything. You must always inspire your readers to take action. How do you do this? By simply taking the time to ask them to do something. It doesn’t have to be too long, you simply need to give them some direction. They will likely to follow.
Ask for feedback from your readers. It is tempting to try to run the entire show yourself, and just plug away until something works. However, that is just not realistic. You need to make sure that you have done all you can in order to gauge reader reaction, in order to make your emails more useful to them. Have surveys and offer incentives for them to tell you how you can be better, or to tell you things they would like to see in your emails.
The worst thing you can do as a marketer is to send emails with no values. If you don’t know why you’re sending emails, why are you sending emails? Make the decision to offer value, and ask yourself if you would read your own emails. Be honest about the answer.
Don’t be afraid to ask other marketers for help. You may be in competition with some people, but it is important for you to remember that other marketers can often answer questions you have about how to best do your emails.
